The first task is to choose the type of disinfectant/antiseptic which should have a Technical File and a Conformity Test which certifies that in its composition the disinfectant acts effectively to eliminate viruses, bacteria, fungus, mycoses and organisms harmful to health. Then it is necessary to invest in two devices that complete the sterilization work in a complementary and effective way: the dry autoclave sterilizer and the germicide/bactericide.

The first of these devices, the dry autoclave sterilizer, whose temperature should be set at 125ºc (enough to eradicate all kinds of micro species which are harmful to health) is the place where the instruments should be placed after disinfection with biocide and remain there for 10 minutes.

At the end of this sterilisation time, the instruments must be transferred to the UV bactericide steriliser, whose lamp must be on during the operating time of the establishment.

The respect for the sterilisation phases must be in strict compliance with the Decree-Law 82/2009 of 2nd April, which establishes the rules for designation, competence and functioning of the entities that exercise the power of health authority. It is within the scope of this Decree-Law that the so-called "health surveillance inspections" take place, which occur unannounced and during normal working hours.
