One side of the file is #100 grit and is used to file the nails. The other, #180 grit, is great for finishing. The main reason this file is tapered is so that it has a narrower end for filing small nails and a wider end for filing larger nails. In ‘Zebra’ files, the grains don't crumble easily, making them more durable. Wooden files are only used on nails in their natural state, without varnish, gel, acrylic, etc. The files can be disinfected by spraying and should not be immersed in disinfectant liquids.
